Fulmer Client Story.
Bill and Linda Fulmer  - Twin Springs Ranch.
Bill Fulmer is a retired utility construction executive from East Texas and wife Linda is retired from the same parent company. While on business trips to the Texas Hill Country the couple was charmed by its laid-back lifestyle, warm climate and close proximity to two major airports, and they considered retiring in the area. The deal was sealed when the Fulmer’s found property near Bill’s sister and family in Twin Springs Ranch; a community with large spacious 25 acre tracts.

As anticipated, the move to Kerrville in 2009 would bring big changes for Bill and Linda. “We expected our stress level to be high,” Bill explained. “We were going to leave behind our childhood home in Diebold, and our professional careers. We wanted not only a homebuilder we could trust, but someone who wouldn’t add any additional stress.”

Attending the Parade of Homes Tour in Comanche Trace in 2006, the couple met several homebuilders including Tony Roberts.

Working in the construction business, I had a pretty good idea of what Linda and I wanted when the house was finished. The Parade of Homes Tour gave us a chance to visit various homes in different stages of construction and assess the quality of the builder’s work. Although we had no formal house plans at that time, we envisioned a ranch style Hill Country home. Tony Roberts steered us toward several architects with that design influence and set up meetings for us at his office. We continued to interview homebuilders while the house plans were in progress.

By the time the plans were finished, we were convinced that Tony was the builder for us. Tony staked out the floor plans at the property site. This allowed us to observe the views from every room and see the location of several large trees on the property and their proximity to the porches and the rest of the house. Tony gave us input on how to utilize the natural rock on the property rather than using manufactured stone. This type of attention to detail was one of many good reasons why we hired Tony Roberts.

Linda and I were still working in East Texas while we were planning, designing and building our home in Twin Springs. Thirty years earlier, when our home in Diebold was built we lived only two blocks away, so we were involved in every aspect of the design. Our retirement home would be a different story, so Tony helped us find an interior designer to assist us in choosing colors and patterns and selecting flooring and granite countertops and tiles. This gave us the peace of mind and expertise we needed to make decisions long distance.

Construction began in May 2008 and we were confident that the job would be done right whether we were six hours away in East Texas or minutes away in Twin Springs.

Tony encouraged our feedback and comments throughout the entire building process. I am a detail oriented person, but Tony would notice things like the location of doors or cabinets that needed to be modified or designed differently more frequently than I did. He was flexible and easy to work with too. Throughout the project Tony was conscientious about our construction budget. They offered ways to save us money and also ways to be energy efficient. Tricia Byrom did a great job of keeping us informed on the status of our project.

The Internet provided us with a daily link to the construction progress. My sister and her husband visited the site each day and emailed us photos. We emailed the office with any questions or concerns and Tony or Tricia responded quickly with an answer. We appreciated the sub contractors working on the house and we never felt pressed to make any immediate decisions. The subs and the vendors would give us plenty of lead team whenever they needed an answer from us.

We moved into our home in February 2009, and because our details were handled along the way, our punch list was short. The living area is 3341 sq feet and 5035 sq feet total including the three car garage and large outside porches. As promised our beautiful tall trees that are so special to us were preserved. Linda and I spend a good deal of time sitting on the porch watching the wildlife. We spot deer, antelope and wild turkey on a regular basis and witness spectacular Hill Country sunsets. We can hardly see our neighbors but at night we see the city lights of Kerrville, which is only four miles away.

We highly recommend Tony Roberts Custom Homes because of the quality of the work, and the great value we achieved working with Tony and Tricia and their wonderful team of subcontractors.
